I was scrolling through Facebook one day when I came across a post in a group for businesswomen and creatives in my city. It was a casting call for a photoshoot called "No Snow Angel." Attached was a mood board filled with wine colors, fur coats, lace, cocktails, and winter glamour.
The funny thing was, I already had all of those things.
It was my birthday season, and if I'm being honest, I was deep in a winter funk. You know the kind, the days are short, the skies are gray, and suddenly your bed becomes your closest companion. Lying there, wrapped in all my winter blues, I decided to take a chance and reach out.
To my surprise, I got a message back.
Angie and I texted back and forth about wardrobe ideas, colors, and the looks I would bring. We settled on a few concepts and agreed to meet at the Metroparks a few days later. I had never thought to do a photoshoot in the snow before, but I loved the vision, so I was ready to play ball.
My hair was done, my face was beat for the GAWDS, and I had on an all-black fur. Honey, I was ready.
Of course, being the self-proclaimed coat queen that I am, I brought about five different options, even though we only ended up shooting two looks. When I pulled up, Angie was already there, camera in hand and ready to create.
We gathered all of our bags from the car and started trekking toward the trees. In hindsight, I definitely should have brought flats because pointed stilettos and snow do not mix. Consider that my public service announcement.
Despite the freezing temperatures and questionable footwear choices, we had such a great time. Angie is a phenomenal photographer and one of the kindest people I've worked with. Her creative direction brought the entire concept to life, and I loved stepping into the world she imagined. I'm already looking forward to working with her again.
If you're looking for an incredible photographer in the city, she's the one.
Looking back, No Snow Angel became more than just a photoshoot for me. It was a reminder that sometimes, all you need to shake off the winter blues is a little snow, a bold red lip, and some bad-girl fun.
